The girls and I went to check on the garden behind the library. We ended up digging potatoes we planted a few months ago. The library was also having its monster machines demonstration. Big machines were on display like a fire truck and helicopter. I asked the pilot and owner if he ever used the helicopter to go on vacation. His reply, "No, I can't afford to." He said that once when the traffic was really badon I20, he got a call to fly Bishop Jakes from Redbird Airport to his church, The Potter's House.

In June, 2013 we were approved for a lot in Discovery Garden, located behind the Zula B. Wiley Public Library. June is not the most desirable month to start a garden in North Texas, but I had to start somewhere. I decided to plant in this community garden things I think about planting, but don't because of lack of space in the backyard garden. I started with the staples-bell pepper, and tomatoes, but since this garden would have full sun I decided to plant peanuts, zucchini, and green beans(rattlesnake). The raised garden bed is made of cement blocks with the outside blocks turned up to include more plants (I thought this was a good use of space. See pic) my daughter transplanted merigolds about three inches tall from our backyard flower garden to plant in these spaces to creat a border around the front of the garden. I planted skyscraper sunflowers from seed to create a border around the back of the garden. We were not disappointed with the flowers, in fact we were thrilled.

AuthorWelcome to my gardening blog. My father passed to me a love for gardening. I wanted to share this passion with my girls, so they would know the origin of their food. (not the local grocery store). So, I dedicated myself to giving them what my father gave me; and if I can inspire someone to garden, the reward is even greater. Archives
